Virtual Component
In SolidWorks, a virtual component is a type of component that exists
only in the context of an
assembly. Unlike a regular component, which is a physical part that can be designed,
modeled, and
manufactured, a virtual component is an abstract entity that does not have a physical presence
outside of the assembly. In this blog, we will explore the concept of virtual components in more
detail and explain how they can be used in SolidWorks.
Uses of Virtual Components
Virtual components are useful in a variety of situations, such as when creating an assembly that
includes a placeholder for a part that has not yet been designed or when creating an assembly that
includes a standard component that does not require a detailed model. Virtual components can also be
used to represent components that are too complex to model in detail or that would take too much
time or resources to model.
Advantages of Virtual Components
There are several advantages to using virtual components in SolidWorks. For example:
- Simplification of Complex Assemblies: Virtual components can be used to simplify complex
assemblies by representing components that do not need to be modeled in detail.
- Improved Performance: Virtual components can help to improve performance by reducing the
overall
size and complexity of an assembly.
- Faster Design Process: Virtual components can help to speed up the design process by
allowing
you to create assemblies more quickly and with fewer resources.
- Flexibility: Virtual components are more flexible than physical components, as they can
be
easily modified, deleted, or replaced without affecting the overall structure of the assembly.
How to create virtual component :
Method 1 : New Virtual Part.
- Click insert dropdown-menu
- Click New Part
- ✅ Done.
- This new part will be virtual component.
Method 2 : Existing Part to Virtual Part.
- Right-click on the part which you want to make virtual component.
- Select the "Make Virtual" option.
- ✅ Done.
- Edit the virtual component as needed, using the same tools and techniques as you would for a
regular component.
Overall, virtual components are a useful tool in SolidWorks that can help you to simplify complex
assemblies, improve performance, and speed up the design process. By using virtual components
effectively, you can create better designs that are more efficient, easier to manage, and better
suited to your needs.
